7th Most Bible-Minded City: Jackson

Jackson, Mississippi, is the "City with Soul" -- soul which extends to the faith of the community. Less than a quarter of this Bible-minded city's population is "unchurched." Jackson's 172,000-plus residents support two megachurches and four religiously affiliated institutions: Belhaven University, Millsaps College (affiliated with the United Methodist Church), Wesley Bible Seminary, and the Mississippi Baptist Seminary Bible College. More than 8 in 10 Mississippi residents declare themselves Christians, 41 percent of those identifying as Evangelical. The high percentage of Christian-affiliated residents might be why the state is number one on Gallup's list of conservative states.
