7th Least Bible-Minded City: New Haven
New Haven, Connecticut, home to Yale University, and the neighboring city of Hartford rank among the least Bible-minded cities in the nation. Forty-five percent of the region's residents are "unchurched." Albertus Magnus College, a Catholic College in New Haven, the nondenominational Hartford Seminary in Hartford, and a single megachurch in East Hartford don't seem to be enough to tip the scales toward Bible-mindedness. In a state considered "below-average conservative" by Gallup, seven in 10 Connecticut residents identify as Christian. A third of the religious population favors Catholicism, just two percent less than those choosing a Protestant denomination.
