Blood Transfusion
Jehovah's Witnesses are known for perhaps two things: door-to-door evangelism and fierce opposition to blood transfusions. Witnesses point to a Mosaic law that says "I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood, and I will cut them off from the people" (Leviticus 17:10). This has proved tricky for Witnesses in need of medical attention. "Each major city of the world has a hospital liaison committee to bridge the gap between the Jehovah's Witness community and medical community," a church official told the Chicago Tribune. "If physicians have questions about what we accept or don't accept or are looking for advice, we can put them in touch with other physicians." But more often than not, most doctors are not sold on the idea.
