8th Most Bible-Minded City: Charlotte

Charlotte, North Carolina -- dubbed the "Queen City" -- is home to nearly 793,000 people, but less than a quarter of residents are "unchurched." The possible explanation? Charlotte has oodles of megachurches: 13 in all. Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary and Queens University of Charlotte (a PCUSA affiliate) make their home in this Bible-minded city. North Carolina stacks up in the nation as ideologically "average" -- not overly conservative or liberal. Still, 77 percent of residents in the state consider themselves Christians and a third of those favor evangelicalism.
