The Most Beautiful Churches in the World
By Anna Dembowski The church may not be defined only by the buildings in which the faithful meet, but the physical structure has to count for something, right? It might be difficult to "worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness" (1 Chronicles 16:29) when the place of worship isn't all that conducive to holiness. It is sometimes said that beauty is fleeting, and as The Ugliest Churches in the World & Even More Ugly Churches shows, modern architecture seems to cause more eyesores than stirred souls. But thanks to restoration and preservation, beauty and worship do coexist. Cathedrals, mosques, and temples from Narino, Columbia, to Chicago, Illinois, have welcomed in people of faith for centuries. Take a look at the world's most beautiful churches -- some built upon the rocks, others upon spilled blood. Anna Dembowski is a 2015 National Journalism Center intern at RealClearReligion.
