With the election behind us, we now face an equally important challenge: responding as ambassadors for Christ. Many of us find ourselves surrounded by friends, family and colleagues who may be celebrating, deeply frustrated or even mourning the results of this election. In times like these, our actions and words matter more than ever.

While we care about our country, we must remember that as Christians, we are ultimately citizens of a different kingdom; a kingdom defined not by elections or political parties, but by the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. This eternal perspective calls us to live in a way that reflects His love, regardless of election outcomes.

Called to be different

So, how do we respond? Pray! Our first and last action should always be to ask God to reveal His will in all aspects of our lives. Jesus taught that the greatest Commandment is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). While some may choose to gloat or sever relationships over political differences, we are called to be salt and light in a world that can feel increasingly dark and divided.

As followers of Christ, we are called to live with compassion and humility, reflecting the love of our Savior. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:24, “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.” When we interact with others, our approach should make them wonder… What is the source of their hope? Why do they respond with such grace?

Living as Christ’s witnesses

Whether you are standing in line to get coffee, engaging in workplace conversations or sitting around the table during a holiday meal, how you engage with people post-election is a unique opportunity to show the love of Christ. Let’s live in a way that people see Christ through us and are drawn to know the God we serve. After the dust of this election has settled, consider what others will say about how you demonstrated Christ’s love. Will they see you as someone who responded with compassion and understanding? Were you a source of light and peace?

Our calling

Our calling is to be obedient to Christ’s commands. We will be presented with opportunities to share our faith with people who don’t know Jesus and make disciples through the power of life-on-life relationships, helping others grow in their faith. Let’s demonstrate to others that Christians are different, not through election outcomes or political beliefs, but through love. Let’s love boldly, serve generously and live humbly so that others may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.

Our response to the election results should be rooted in our identity as followers of Christ. By living out our faith with love, humility and compassion, we can be a beacon of hope and light in a divided world. Let us seize this opportunity to reflect Christ’s love and make a lasting impact on those around us.

Practical steps to reflect Christ’s love
  1. Engage in meaningful conversations: Approach discussions with a mindset of listening and understanding rather than debating. Show empathy towards others’ feelings and perspectives, even if they differ from your own.
  2. Serve your community: Look for ways to serve those around you, especially those who are hurting or in need. Acts of kindness and service can be powerful testimonies of Christ’s love.
  3. Pray for leaders and citizens alike: Regardless of political affiliation, pray for wisdom and guidance for our leaders. Pray also for peace and unity among citizens, that we may work together for the common good.
  4. Model Christ-like behavior: In your actions and words, strive to reflect the character of Christ. Be patient, kind and forgiving, showing the same grace that has been extended to you.
  5. Build bridges, not walls: Seek to build relationships and find common ground with those who hold different views. Focus on shared values and goals and work together towards positive change.
