Kamala Harris, Catholics, and Hispanics

Last year in Texas, a father returned home from work to find his precious 11-year-old daughter dead beneath her own bed, stuffed into a plastic bag. The young girl, Maria Gonzalez, had been raped and strangled to death by a neighbor Juan Carlos Garcia-Rodriguez, who entered America illegally in 2023 from Guatemala, but was allowed to stay in our homeland — because under the lax border policies of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, he only needed a “sponsor” in Louisiana.

So, an American girl paid for the radical open borders madness with her life, joining a sad list of totally preventable tragedies, including the brutal murder of Laken Riley. That 22-year-old nursing student was beaten to death by an illegal migrant on the campus of the University of Georgia in broad daylight.

To explain this dangerous policy recklessness to voters, the advocacy group CatholicVote just launched a haunting and effective ad about young Maria Gonzalez and the immigration lawlessness of Kamala Harris. As a presidential candidate in 2020, Harris made it crystal clear that she does not consider trespassing into America to even be a crime. Then as vice-president, she was established as Biden’s point person on the border crisis that they created. Yes, despite media protestations now, she was indeed, the “border czar,” as detailed by Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies.

As such, now that Harris has been selected by Democrat powerbrokers — not voters, not a single one — she must face the music on the border catastrophe that has welcomed in at least 10 million illegal migrants into America since she became vice-president. Even though media mavens push a fake narrative that Hispanic voters welcome that human tsunami of trespassers, the opposite is actually true. The CatholicVote ad powerfully exposes the harsh reality: it is often Hispanic citizens of America who deal most acutely with the damage of unlawful migration, especially regarding preventable crimes committed by illegal aliens.

CatholicVote smartly engages in this issue because most Hispanic Americans are, of course, Catholics. In addition, the advocacy group enters this debate because unfortunately some of the Catholic bishops of America grandstand on illegal migration, and present a false narrative that Catholic teaching somehow justifies border lawlessness.

CatholicVote president Brian Burch noted that American Catholics are some of the most generous and welcoming people in society, but not tolerant of disorder and chaos regarding immigration. Regarding the border policies of Kamala Harris, he remarked that “her failures have cost the lives of American citizens, while putting tens of thousands of vulnerable migrants at risk of rape, sexual assault, and exploitation. While cartels, sex traffickers, and drug dealers profit, real people, including children, are suffering.”

Catholic voters seem to agree. In the latest American Greatness battleground state poll in Pennsylvania, Trump has earned a giant +17% lead among Catholics over Kamala Harris, 54-37%. Trump’s overall lead in that poll is +2% over Harris. So, in a state that will almost surely be a very tight race, Catholic voters in Pennsylvania could very well tip the balance toward Trump.

As a Catholic himself and the senator from neighboring Ohio, vice-presidential nominee JD Vance should be particularly helpful in winning over that key Pennsylvania demographic. Vance just visited the border and delivered a blistering takedown of Harris’ border radicalism. He declared that “Kamala Harris came into office making promises, and she kept those promises to open the American southern border.” Vance continued: “and we have to remember that as terrible and idiotic as these policies were, they cause real human beings to suffer.”

JD is correct, of course. There is nothing compassionate about vaporizing our border. In fact, the opposite is true — the lawless Harris/Biden border brings misery. For American citizens, it brings economic harm, jeopardizes our national security, and brings unspeakable suffering to families like the Gonzalezes, who mourn the totally preventable loss of their dear 11-year-old daughter.
