Ask yourself: do you truly believe that every person is made in God’s image?
Many people pay lip service to the inalienable dignity of human beings but fall short in how they treat people who are sick, or old, or disabled, or infants—people who can seem useless and are frequently inconvenient to care for. Many people don’t want to deal with others who are totally—or even sometimes even slightly—dependent. So, prisons, hospitals, orphanages, and nursing homes provide a neat solution. Put all the inconvenient people there, and you can wash your hands of them.
