Yes, ‘Marriage Is Hard’—But It’s Also Joyful

The day I got engaged to Lex was the same day my favorite worship artist released an EP of love songs. I listened to them as I drove to our engagement spot, reflecting on the divine surprise that was our relationship. She entered my life and brought new joy along with her—a representation, for me, of God’s goodness. I drove, listened to those love songs, and felt unmediated joy.

However, since our engagement this past October, well-meaning Christians have inadvertently stifled this joy and taken away this rest, suggesting marriage is not a love song but a long dawn of depravity.
