Vines’ essay is neither vitriolic nor bigoted, and it is thoughtfully constructed, undoubtedly formed from his personal experiences. He clearly values theological rigor, which I appreciate and relate to. And I admire how he takes seriously the way the language and terms we use, when thoughtlessly applied, can become meaningless or unhelpful.
But as a trans Christian who often describes myself as queer, I found Vines’ perspective misguided on multiple fronts.
