The existence of ultrasound imagery has played a central role in weakening public support for second- and third-trimester abortion, simply by making unborn babies visible. Those visual realities shaped public opinion, led voters to elect representatives who share their convictions about life in the womb, and paved the way for states to strengthen abortion restrictions, including elective abortion bans in some places.
