This Ramadan, I’m Choosing Emptiness Over Exhaustion

The past few weeks, I’ve received many digital reminders of the arrival of the most blessed of months in the Islamic calendar, asking: “Are you ready for Ramadan?” From my Instagram feed to WhatsApp group messages to unopened emails, with each reminder I receive, I can tangibly feel my cortisol levels rising ever so slightly as the days creep up to Tuesday (Feb. 17), the first evening of Ramadan.
