Powerful Anglican Faction Rejects Next Archbishop of Canterbury

Dame Sarah Mullally’s leadership as the next Archbishop of Canterbury has been rejected by a powerful conservative faction of Anglican churches, raising the risk of a global schism.

In what has been described as a “power play” for leadership of the worldwide Anglican Communion, the Archbishop of Rwanda called on conservative Anglican churches to sever their ties with the Church of England, to reject the Archbishop of Canterbury as their spiritual leader and to refuse to attend meetings called by her.
