CT Teacher Removed From Class for Hanging Crucifix

A report about a public school teacher who officials say displayed a crucifix and repeatedly made religious references in the classroom concluded she acted inappropriately and in violation of a teachers’ ethical code, documents show.

Marisol Arroyo-Castro, a seventh-grade teacher, “appeared to impose her specific religious values on her students,” according to a report by Elisa H. Bartlett, an independent investigator. And by doing so, Arroyo-Castro was “failing to recognize or value those of other faiths. ... Her actions were inappropriate and in violation of the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers,” wrote Bartlett, from Bartlett Law LLC, a Coventry-based law firm.
