The Sin of the Scouts

In preparation for the conquest of the land, YHWH commands Moses to send tribal chieftains to scout out the entire “land of Canaan” from the wilderness of Zin in the south to Rehov Levo-Hamat in the far north. After forty days, the men return with a negative report about both the land and its inhabitants.
