You might think you know how religious trends are evolving. Perhaps you think that atheism is on the rise globally, for example, or that Christianity is on the decline.
But you would be wrong.
Today almost a third of all people follow Christianity, the largest religion. In a few decades, the Pew Research Center projects that there will be nearly as many Muslims as Christians—but Christians will still account for about a third of all people.
The religious composition of the world will shift as the population swells to more than nine billion in 2050. Most religions will gain followers as a result, but not at the same rates.
