I Will Persevere Until I Reclaim the Life I Deserve

As a Muslim woman born and raised in Yemen, my journey has been one of self-discovery, defiance, and a relentless pursuit of truth. In a society deeply influenced by political Islam, where life’s vibrancy is overshadowed by rigid dogmas, I found myself questioning the principles that seemed to suffocate human potential and joy. Through my passion for physics and a profound love for nature, music, and art, I embarked on a journey to challenge the chains of societal conformity, seeking a life that aligns with my beliefs rather than inherited traditions.

Political Islam, as it operates in Yemen, often advocates for a life devoid of individuality and personal freedom. The idea of living life on one’s terms—pursuing passions, celebrating art, or even simply relishing the beauty of nature—is condemned as frivolous or sinful. It is as if joy itself is forbidden, deemed incompatible with the spiritual aspirations of a devout Muslim.
