Of Things Sacred and Profane

Jesus warned against confusing the things of God and the things of Caesar. An increasingly irreligious culture, however, seeks to adopt these orphaned words. In so doing, they give an outsized importance to the things of this world—to civic monuments and political processes. Scripture reminds us that we have here no lasting city, and that the world as we know it is passing away.
