The latest “He Gets Us” Super Bowl commercial has been widely criticized, and for good reason. This article won’t plod through every objection that’s been raised — that’s a longer story for another day. Instead, let’s zero in on what may be the campaign’s most subversive slice, one that’s gained little attention thus far. But first, a quick skim over the controversy will set the scene for what should concern every faithful Christian. “He Gets Us” is under the direction of a nonprofit called Come Near. Few know much about the people behind the group, but what we do know is alarming.
