Nicaea II, Protestants, and Icons

Icons, or sacred images, and their veneration–and indeed what exactly “veneration” is–have been an ongoing topic of Christian discussion since the eighth century. The debate has reared its head again in this new year of 2023, due in part to a video by Gavin Ortlund on his YouTube channel, Truth Unites, to which I shall occasionally refer in this article.
