The U.S. Supreme Court overturned both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey on Friday, ruling that there is no constitutional right to abortion. The ruling comes after nearly 50 years of protections for the procedure based on the 1973 ruling in Roe that there is a constitutional right to privacy that extends to pregnant women choosing to have an abortion. The ruling in Casey, now overturned, had guaranteed that states cannot impose undue burdens on pregnant women seeking abortions.
