Call Latter-day Saints By Our Name

At age seventeen I was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and baptized -- this in the town where I grew up, where Latter-day Saints represented only about seven percent of the population. I knew of the Church in only a cursory way prior -- and only by the name "Mormon." In the fifth grade, I briefly befriended a member of the Church, a mischievous, fun-loving boy. Two things I remembered most about him were his large, strong family, and the name of their religion: "Mormon." Or so I thought. I had no idea what that meant; the term seemed obscure and a bit strange -- though by all appearances they were as mainstream as anyone.
