Was Jesus a Leftist or a Rightist?

How did Jesus become associated with the right? He was a son of refugees who championed the poor and urged his followers not to cast the first stone. But when it comes to the ballot box, Jesus has become the political property of hard-line conservatives and anti-migration populists less inclined to turn the other cheek than to return asylum seekers back to danger.
