Church's Focus on Mary’s Virginity A Curse for Women

In a few days, Christians around the world will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. They will recount how Mary and Joseph made the long, hard journey to Bethlehem and how she gave birth to Jesus in a manger. It's a story with beautiful themes of God's humble love, tenderness and vulnerability. But this holiday season, there's a part of this story that it's time to move past: Mary's purported virginity.
