When Qasim Rashid, a practicing Muslim, finished his internship at a labor law firm in Virginia 10 years ago, he was told he would be offered a full-time attorney role on one condition: if he toned down his outspokenness on Islamophobia.
Rashid, who is now the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, said the incident happened in 2010 amid the Ground Zero mosque controversy, the “Burn a Quran Day” initiative, and the Times Square bombing attempt.
