Why We Can Smile on Tisha Be'av

n>As early as the late 19th century, the question of adapting Tisha Be’Av prayer to the dramatic changes in the modern Jewish world emerged. In light of the renaissance of our people, the return to Israel and the rehabilitation of Yerushalayim, how can our tefillot on Tisha Be’av describe a city that “lies in mourning, empty and desolate?”
Prayer mustn’t be dishonest and must be presented before God in a truthful and accurate fashion. Some have suggested altering the inserted Tisha Be’av prayer to reflect these modern changes while still articulating the great losses that Tisha Be’Av commemorates.
