But in the name of public health, many state governments have maintained strict limits on religious gatherings. Yet religious people are also being a little paranoid. Many secular policymakers do not hate religion; they simply do not understand it. They do not understand religion as something known through inner experience, but simply as an external phenomenon that produces behavior they cannot relate to.
