After witnessing the brutal crucifixion and subsequent burial of her friend, teacher, and Lord, Mary Magdalene awoke early in the morning after the Sabbath. On her way to Jesus' tomb, she wondered how she would roll the large stone so she could anoint his body with spices, a common practice of the day. As she came near it, she saw the stone had already been rolled away. When she stepped inside, expecting to see Jesus' body, it was not there. Instead, there was a man dressed in white who told her not to be afraid because Jesus is risen.
