A shortage of priests in the Amazon has resurfaced discussion within the Catholic church over the clergy's vow of celibacy and when it's permissible to consider married men for ordination. The conversation is a hot topic on the agenda at this week's Synod of Bishops in Rome.
The meeting of church clergy was formed to address the needs of the millions of people in the Amazon, defined by the council as parts of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Venezuela and Suriname.
