Many leaders and adherents within the Christian community believe the president is a vessel for God. No matter his words or actions, past or present, they believe he was chosen for this time, which means that anyone claiming to be a person of genuine Christian faith must give the president their full support.
But it's interesting that this strong theological position on God's providential rule seems only to apply to this presidency—many of these same individuals do not think Barack Obama was divinely ushered in. Maybe the Almighty had turned his back on the United States during those eight years of leftist reign. Maybe God was on lunch break.
