After spending two days knee-deep in Southern Baptists at the annual meeting in Birmingham, I can't help but feel that the future of the nation's largest protestant denomination is bright.
My optimism is not rooted in the numbers. If you looked at those metrics alone, you might hold a dimmer view. Baptisms and membership have declined in recent years.
But, as in many things, the numbers only tell part of the story.
