Expelled for Performing an Interfaith Wedding

I have been expelled from the Rabbinical Assembly, the professional organization of rabbis affiliated with the Conservative Movement in Judaism.

Late last year I dared to touch the “third rail” when I decided to perform interfaith marriages. And then I wrote about it in an article that was widely distributed in the Jewish world. Once my actions became so public, the assembly felt it had no choice but to challenge me and punish me. I was a member for 44 years, president of two regions of the organization, and I served on several national committees.
