Televangelist Rev. Marvin Gorman Dies at 83

The Rev. Marvin Gorman was many things to many people: a charismatic televangelist, a spiritual guide and a prolific author. But to his rival, the pioneering Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, Gorman was a spear in his side.

Both men ascended to fame using religion as their guiding light, and in the mid-1980s both lost their flocks, alongside a third televangelist named Jim Bakker, amid a set of sexual scandal accusations — some founded, some bogus — the three brought against one another.
