Youth Puts Its Faith in Pope Francis

A controversial decision to merge two Catholic high schools created another potential controversy: what to name the new school. So the bishop turned to the students, who turned to their ideal of inclusion and unity — the pope.

The nation’s first Pope Francis High School begins classes Sept. 6 in temporary quarters, 12 days before ground is broken for its future home.

The students say naming the school for a living person — who, at the time the decision was made last year, had been pope for only two years — was worth the risk.
