Pope John Paul II had a 30-year friendship with a married woman. Well, with more than one, but the woman in focus this week was Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka, aged 50 when they first met, three years younger than Cardinal Karol WojtyÅ?a, as he then was.
According to Edward Stourton, who made this weekâ??s Panorama on their friendship and wrote about it in the Telegraph, she declared her love for WojtyÅ?a in 1975, and he responded, not by breaking off the friendship, but by placing their friendship on a spiritual level.
