Time to Abandon Christmas to Commercialism

Christmas is upon us and everyone has their own way of navigating the annual flurry of activity.

Retailers gear up for the biggest transaction period of the year, and the livelihood of many depends upon this surge of sales. Gift givers have their lists and send out their cards. Many look forward to a time of sharing goodwill and reconnecting, even though this does not always seem to be particularly pleasant for some. For others, this season draws attention to their isolation and loneliness. On the whole, however, Christmas is deemed a good thing for the economy and a welcome opportunity to reawaken a certain sense of social connectedness.
