Rise of Catholic Schools in the Land of Baptists

In the land of cotton, grits and Baptists, far from its historic roots, Catholic education seems to be reviving its spirit.

A sprawling construction project on a former farm tract outside Fairhope suggests the trend. There, in Alabama's fastest-growing county, a new Catholic high school is expected to open in August next year to more than 300 freshmen and sophomores.
