Residents of Maxwell Terrace, a converted Orlando motel now housing formerly homeless people, watched wide-eyed Thursday as volunteers unloaded box after box of nonperishable food, laundry soap, toilet paper and other essentials of their new lives.
Mark Huckaba, 53, was among those waiting. For him, the delivery from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — along with "four walls, a ceiling and a private shower" — seemed almost surreal after spending most of the past 14 years living in the woods and on the streets.
