The Need for 'Faith Literacy'

The corridors of power are quite often secular contexts. A lot of diplomats or people working in multilateral organisations like the UN or the EU often grow up in secular environments, which makes it more difficult for them to understand the impact that religious communities have in the world.

One of the things that I explain to them is that the world is not becoming less religious, but more religious. It's de-secularising. If you look at the percentage of agnostics in the world, in 1970 it was 15 per cent and now it's 4.5 per cent. When you look at the atheists, it was 10 per cent in 1970 and it was 2 per cent in 2010.
