What Joseph Smith's Stone Wrought

I have to applaud the LDS Church's decision to publish photos of one of Joseph Smith's seer stones in an upcoming Ensign article. The increased transparency with regard to our difficult past is laudable.

There will certainly be those surprised, perhaps troubled, by the article, but the church's new inoculative approach to the strange parts of Mormonism is likely a good policy for the long term. Those of us living through this transitional period may be feeling the sting of betrayal, learning the narrative we were raised with was misleading and in many cases just plain false. The youth, however, will grow up with far fewer conflicting accounts.
