I am about to buy a car, though my friends will believe it only when they see it. Which is reasonable, since I will drive it only after I purchase it. Funny how things work. What has not really been funny is the nest egg I built up over the past year; every time it reached my comfort level, to throw at a new vehicle… a crisis with family or friends loomed up. With each loom, almost in a predictable pattern, I was happy to divert those nickels to those who needed them more than I did.
I am not patting myself on the pack, except for the odd satisfaction to be able to help others in small ways. I endured neither contumely nor pity, but rather just ribbing, as when a friend and her daughter continually pretended to think I was a visitor from the various states represented by my rental cars’ license plates represented. Ha.
