Some Methodists: Change Gay Teaching

As the country waits for the Supreme Court to weigh in on gay marriage, a vote of a different kind took place in Roanoke last weekend. The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church passed a resolution asking that a sentence be removed from the denomination's Book of Discipline. That sentence states “the United Methodist Church does not condone the practice of homosexuality and considers this practice incompatible with Christian teaching.”

By a 989-868 vote, the conference asked that when all the denomination's churches across the world gather for a general conference next year, they consider removing that as part of church doctrine.
