Catholic U: Jesuit Priest Out, Ferguson Protesters In

Saint Louis University is famous for three things: hosting the first forward pass in football history, having a top-notch health law program, and possessing a number of weird on-campus statues. We even have an acapella group, Bare Naked Statues, named in honor of the sculptures places strategically around campus. University President Fred Pestello even agreed to feature a statue honoring the Ferguson protestors who camped out at SLU last fall. As of this week, however, SLU is one statue short.

A few days ago, SLU decided to remove a statue of Jesuit Missionary Pierre-Jean De Smet S.J. after a number of students complained that it represented "white supremacy, racism, and colonialism." The artwork was formerly placed in the center of campus in front of Fusz Hall, a building known mainly for its food court on the first floor and morgue in the basement (the building was a retirement home in its former life).
