The leader of the campaign against women bishops in the Church of England has himself been appointed as a bishop in a move designed to help avert a split or an exodus of traditionalists.
The Rev Prebendary Rod Thomas, chairman of the influential Reform group, is widely credited with orchestrating the defeat of earlier attempts to open the episcopate to women, insisting that the plans did not make proper â??provisionâ? for traditionalists who object on theological grounds.
