The Church of England will consecrate its first woman bishop today. Rev Libby Lane will become Bishop of Stockport after a two hour ceremony led by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, will be feeling the heat: he has said he welcomes the historic move; he knows that the majority of the Church of England faithful have had 20 years to grow used to women priests; by now, with 1781 female clergy, they are not shocked that some may be consecrated bishops.
