Whether at work or school, all of us are taught from birth to always comply. From the history teachers whose carefully chosen curriculum ensures that children only ever learn what the state wants them to, to employers who don’t want you to ask questions and instead just do what you’re told.
Being Jewish it’s even worse. We are taught or indoctrinated into (depending on your perspective) from an early age, a whole host of Jewish practice. For example we should take three steps back and three forward before the Amidah so we can enter the kingdom of G-d. But why this way?
