For my topic today I have chosen to write about something quite a bit more controversial than some of the other topics I've addressed. I will be writing about gender roles within the church, including expectations for each gender, equality, and responsibilities. I have taken extra time to write this column because I wanted to get all the information right. This issue also has individual significance for me because I had personal concerns about this and have searched for answers to my many questions concerning my role as a woman in this church. However, through my search I have gained an understanding that I can now share with others.
To begin with, I want to write about Mother Eve. I believe that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have a unique view of this wonderful mother of all living. We believe that Eve understood that her decision to partake of the fruit was a necessary transgression so that man may be. We honor Eve for her selflessness, righteousness, and wisdom. Likewise, women in the church are also respected and honored for their service, righteousness, and spiritual gifts.
