Arguing â??cheap, plentiful, reliable energy for the vast majority of peopleâ? is a moral good should be a no-brainer. In fact, it should be completely unnecessary â?? except itâ??s not. Unfortunately, the Bill McKibbens of our era require mounting a moral justification for oil, natural gas and coal such as the recently published â??The Moral Case for Fossil Fuelsâ? by Alex Epstein (Portfolio/Penguin).
In this day and age, however, alongside environmentalist McKibben are celebrity activists hopping big olâ?? jetliners to put their faces front and center in protests against the widespread use of fossil fuels and impending climate catastrophe wrought by carbon-dioxide emissions. Likewise, those celebrity wannabe nuns who tootle cross-country in their air-conditioned, gas-guzzling bus, promoting so-called â??Catholic social justiceâ? causes. The media darlings have inspired books, documentaries and even a ridiculous self-promotional homage of Meghan Trainorâ??s thin-shaming hit â??All About That Bassâ? â?? called, I kid you not, â??All About That Bus.â?
