Christian Classics You Can't Afford to Miss

I was excited to see the Anglican paper Church Times recently compile a list of “the 100 best Christian books.” I was further excited to see Augustine’s Confessions topping the roster. That book is a friend.

Many other good and notable books by good and notable authors fill the list. But what’s most notable is what didn’t make the cut. I counted just seven books from patristic sources, and Augustine wrote two of those. The others include Benedict of Nursia (his rule), Gregory Nazianzen (his five principal theological treatises), Pseudo-Dionysius, Bede, and the early monastics represented in the Philokalia.
