Recognition that church choirs are in rapid decline has been a feature of the decades-long debate over worship in American Christianity. But the trend troubles some Baptists, a number of whom took to Facebook recently to post evidence that choral music has — or at least should have — a continuing place in American congregations.
One of them was Kevin Glenn, senior pastor at Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia, Mo., who says his main objection to a Religion News Service article in September was a source’s claim that churches must choose between keeping their choirs or appealing to younger generations.
